Roller for Animals Animals Tier List
Decide which hatches stay in your Pen and which become upgrade cash.
Animals are the passive engine of Roller for Animals. Every successful egg return that you hatch adds another earner to your Pen. This tier list helps you decide what to keep when slots and attention are limited. Exact creature names and payout numbers shift with updates, so we rank by role and route difficulty instead of pretending a single screenshot will stay true forever.

Confirmed early roster anchors (official promo art)
Official promotional art for Roller for Animals shows a clear, documented income climb. Treat these as verified early anchors—not guesses:
| Animal | Promo income | Role hint |
|---|---|---|
| Cat | ~$1/s | Starter scaffolding |
| Dog | ~$2/s | Early filler |
| Bird | ~$8/s | Mid keep while mobility grows |
| Fox | ~$25/s | Strong keeper once you can reach its egg |
That ladder is the mental model for early Pen upgrades: a Dog roughly doubles a Cat, a Bird jumps hard into mid income, and a Fox is a major keeper when your steals can finish the return. Star markers on the same art rise from one star on Cat and Dog toward three stars on Fox. Expect more species after patches—always verify live dollars-per-second in your Pen UI, then hatch promptly via Hatch Eggs.
Tier legend
- S — Core keepers: High cash relative to the risk of the egg run. Fill Pen slots with these when you can reach their zones.
- A — Strong fillers: Worth keeping until an S replaces them. Great mid-game income.
- B — Early scaffolding: Keep while learning routes; sell or replace once mobility improves.
- C — Temporary: Hatch for index progress or tiny cash, then clear space.
- D — Skip when contested: Only chase if the egg is free and close; do not tilt for them on long tracks.
S tier roles
S-tier animals usually come from mid-to-far eggs that demand real speed. They earn enough that one or two can fund the next roller purchase. If a run feels too deadly for your current roller, back up to A-tier targets—see Steal Eggs for abort rules.
Traits or weather-style mutations (when available in an update) can bump an A animal into S for that session. Visual glow or name tags often signal boosted earners; prioritize returning those eggs even if the base species looks ordinary.
A tier roles
A-tier animals are the backbone of a healthy Pen. They appear often enough that you can stock several without perfect RNG. Keep a mixed board of A earners while you hunt rarer eggs. Do not delete your entire A bench just because a creator flashed an S animal in a montage.
B and C tier roles
B animals pay for your first speed upgrades. Hatch them, collect, buy mobility, then replace. C animals still matter for Animal Index rewards and group milestones—claim index bonuses when the UI offers them, then free the slot.
D tier and contested junk
If an egg sits in a packed lane and the resulting animal barely moves your income, walk away. Time is a resource. Re-route using tips from Getting Started rather than fighting five players for a D-tier hatch.
Practical keep rules
- Never leave eggs unhatched while you are broke.
- After each shopping trip, glance at Pen income before another long steal.
- Replace the lowest earner first when a better animal arrives.
- If offline cash is available, claim it before selling—some UIs settle income on claim.
- Cross-check new names against Updates after patches.
Index completion vs pure cash
Completing the Animal Index can unlock claimable rewards. That means a low-tier hatch can still be correct if it finishes a collection row. Balance index hunting with income: do index sweeps when you already have stable A-tier cash, not when you cannot afford the next roller.
Example early-game board
- Two or three B animals from short steals
- One A animal from a slightly longer safe route
- Empty slots reserved for the next upgrade-funded egg
That board funds Speed Upgrades without requiring perfect luck.
Example mid-game board
- Majority A animals
- One or two S animals from contested but completed runs
- One flex slot for index or event eggs

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, steals, upgrades, and more.
Should I sell all common animals?
Not at the start. Commons fund your first speed buys. Replace them once A-tier income is stable.
Do mutations change the tier list?
Yes. Boosted or mutated animals can out-earn their base tier for that session. Prefer returning those eggs.
How often should I rebuild my Pen?
After each major mobility upgrade or patch. Faster rollers unlock better eggs, which should bump weak slots.
Where do I learn the steal routes?
Use Steal Eggs for return tactics, then come back here to decide what stays hatched.
